Mexico Mission Trip, Day Two

From my journal
December 29, 2009

It was so cold last night! Our room is just a big metal building with a concrete floor.
I slept in gloves, a hat, a T-shirt, a hoodie, PJ pants, and fuzzy socks, in a sleeping bag in a room with 180 other people
and I was still cold. I would guess 20 or 30 degrees. Today is "training day"; we will learn the structure of building, and the dramas, and the Vacation Bible School stuff. (I'm still wearing a hoodie, fuzzy gloves, and socks.)
Now we're having quiet time, which I think lasts for an hour. We had breakfast. Cereal, which was okay, and orange juice which was surprisingly yummy (I don't like orange juice!)
It's only a small bit warmer. Also the bathrooms are really nasty
and it smells like a farm here - we're on a ranch with cows and stuff - and birds keep flying in the open doors! The "clean water" is in sinks which are outside, where you have to brush your teeth and stuff and get drinking water from.

It warms up during the day, but not for long. Sunup is at 6:30ish, and sun down at 5ish. And it's cold again by four.
Today we played games, learned the bits for VBS, split into groups and I'm with Candice and Chris, learned a drama called Ragman

and I'm the "blind person", ate PB&J for lunch,
had an evening seminar on evangelism, and ate Mexican for dinner. There's a "snack bar" with junk food; I bought Pringles, a Twix bar, and Cracker Jacks for $3. Technically I'm not supposed to eat popcorn or caramel...oh well! I really miss my family more than I thought I would.
Oh, and my team's name is Reckless Abandon, which is cool.
I can't wait to go to sleep. I just hope it isn't so cold!
