From my journal (with a bit of extra commentary upon looking back)
January 2, 2010
Today was pretty dang awesome. At VBS, we did a skit called
Mi Corazon (that links to a skit which is similar but not the same) and it went over wonderfully. The kids loved it, and parents came out of their houses to watch.

Our MC dressed up as a clown again, which the kids loved. And since today was our last day, we had the job to give away all the candy and prizes and so she hooked all of them on her clothes.

Then we played a relay race which involved them dressing up as clowns! (Oh and I was allowed to take pictures today!)

All the ring pops and push pops and toys were given away and the kids of course loved that!

We performed the Ragman skit and the kids responded really well to that too; when we finished a little kid started chanting "Otra! Otra!" (again, again!) And at the altar call, fourteen kids came to Christ!
What I thought was most amazing was a little boy named Luis. Luis was a little troublemaker the past four days, being a bit of a bully and not playing fair. But apparently today we got through to him, because he accepted Christ. He even hugged me goodbye. :)
Today was the hottest day out there, too! We had a "goodbye party" and danced around and had a lot of fun (with Toby Mac playing through the speakers!)

But we had to leave really fast 'cuz a couple of guys showed up with shotguns. What is it with these people and shotguns? That's two times God has kept us - me - from potential danger or even death!
Then we moved on to the house. We had to scrape putty

and paint the inside after it was sufficiently scraped.

While they were doing that, and, er, goofing off a bit

I was painting trim on the outside of the house. The sun was very bright and glared off the trim into my eyes!

Then I moved inside and swept dust from the floor. After the rooms were swept and we had all inhaled copious amounts of dust, we moved on to painting. The wall color: bright red. The current color of my skin and clothes: bright red.
We got into a paint war. :D
Jonathan and I especially, kept dipping our hands in the paint and patting each other on the back or poking them in the face. Then he stole my beanie (which apparently no one had ever seen me take off!) and I chased him around trying to get it for several minutes!

No one was spared from the paint warring! Not even Tike!

I got Jonathan much messier than he got me!

We dedicated the house and gave the family the keys

and they got to step into their new house. It was so moving.

Then we said goodbye, which was so emotional. I'm gonna miss them, but at the same time I'm super proud. We built a whole house in only four days!
And later back at the ranch, I taught my friends how to use Pringles to be a duck! :D
